On election day, the big races took center stage while, for many Americans, democracy took a back seat. Video the Vote captured the story behind the story: rampant problems with voting machines, poorly trained poll workers, long lines, confusing photo ID laws—all creating obstacles and disenfranchising voters.

Equipment Failures

Electronic Voting machines were deployed across the country like never before, in many cases without proper testing, and without reasonable backup plans. The result was systemic failure in certain areas that caused long lines and voters to be turned away. This new cause of disenfranchisement affected a broad base voters all across the country.
